At the heart of our traditional Flower Communion service is the practice of honoring the beauty of each person and every thing. This year, we'll reinvent this beloved ritual for our online service. We invite you to watch with a flower, a green plant, or any object in your home that you find beautiful. It won't be exactly the same, but then, we're learning all the time about how to make meaning and find beauty exactly where we are. We also welcome our newest WUU members.

Poet, theologian and philosopher John O’Donahue asserts, “At any time you can ask yourself: At what threshold am I now standing?” Some thresholds may be clear to us, and we can feel their intensities before the step into something new. What about the more ambiguous thresholds, those muddy in-between places in which we aren’t sure of what is currently happening or the new thing that awaits? How do we begin to acknowledge key thresholds, as O’Donahue suggests, if we are not sure what they are? We explore some ways to identify thresholds through remembrance, presence, and leaning forward.

As we begin our deep dive into May's theme of Thresholds, in this service we practice creating sacred spaces for ourselves. Though we can't gather in the "official" sacred space of our beloved WUU sanctuary, we can create sacred places in our own homes and outdoor spaces--threshold places that allow us to connect more easily with the holy, however we name and experience it.
