Monday Sep 14, 2020
Monday Sep 14, 2020
Come listen to a WUU service!
At the turn of the 19th century, American workers were fighting for safe working conditions and sustainable hours. The idea that workers deserved rest was revolutionary. Today, millions of workers are in crisis, with many laid off, and others forced to choose between Covid exposure or unemployment. As people of faith, how are we called to respond on this Labor Day? Today we'll also bless our kids and teachers returning to school.

WUU Service - "Interdependence" (08/30/20)
Friday Sep 04, 2020
Friday Sep 04, 2020
Come listen to a WUU service!
Healing the Earth is a process that recognizes the thorough interdependence of all things, the ecological web of life and non-life in which each touch resonates with the whole. In Buddhism, the third mark of existence itself is selflessness. This Sunday we will talk about selflessness and interdependence, tracing out how the healing or harming of one piece of our world ripples out with effects for all the others.

For thousands of years, human beings have been asking in times of crisis, Why is this happening? Why is there suffering? Our Unitarian and Universalist ancestors believed life was a school and suffering was one of our teachers. In this time of Covid, what does your heart say?

WUU Service - "Every Creature: Animal Blessing Service" (08/16/20)
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Come listen to a WUU Service!
We bless our animal companions and the wild creatures with whom we share this earth. Pets and stuffed animals are warmly invited to join in and cuddle with you, stalk across the screen, or hang out however suits their nature. We also look at some maybe-surprising connections between breed-specific legislation and human racial discrimination, and move toward a more healing paradigm where all beings are honored for who they are.

WUU Service - "The Power of Kindness" (08/09/20)
Sunday Aug 16, 2020
Sunday Aug 16, 2020
Come listen to a WUU Service!
Kindness is a simple concept, yet it can be so impactful. It can make the world a better place by ending inequality, oppression, and injustice. It has the power to radically improve our well- being and that of our families, friends, colleagues, and strangers.
Kindness and compassion are among the main things that can make our lives meaningful. They can also be sources of power as we desire to help others in the beloved community. The mere act of expressing graciousness to one another can make us more empathetic of other people’s hardships. How can simple acts of kindness have such a tremendous impact on others and ourselves?

What does love look like in times of extreme difficulty? Where can we go to feel cared for? Who is looking out for us? Who is there for the most vulnerable? Buddhism offers the Four Brahmaviharas. Love is first. What does Love mean for us now in a nation wracked with a pandemic, racism, extreme climate change and strong opposing political forces?

You’ve probably heard the funny catchphrase “The impossible will take a little longer.” Maybe it’s inspired you to persevere through hard times. But what do you do when the impossible is just...well...impossible? Here we hold in love all who are facing impossible choices and demands, not least our families and parents who are struggling to hold down full-time jobs and care for their children full-time, at the same time.

WUU Service - "Take the New Way Home" (07/12/20)
Thursday Jul 16, 2020
Thursday Jul 16, 2020
Come listen to a WUU Worship Service!
In times of deep uncertainty and immense change, we can feel like we have lost the way home. What if things will never be the same? Who will we be if we cannot return to the life we have known? Will we ever come to solid ground again? We can experience this in our personal lives, after a serious loss, a major change, or as a community and a country. Our spiritual traditions hint to us that the person who can live in this new world is not here yet but is being born now. Join Steve DeLaney as we reflect on spiritual practices for the journey of change moving toward a new life.
